Frequently Asked Questions

What is IKF?

In-Kind Friends (IKF) is a collaborative group of women that strengthens Triangle nonprofits through creative, spirited, hands-on partnerships. By working together to provide pro bono interim time and talent, we amplify our clients’ community impact and improve our corner of the world

Do you provide funding?

No. Time and talent are our currency. We are not a funding organization.

What types of projects do you take on?

We focus on well-defined projects that will benefit your organization and will have a meaningful impact. In other words, we seek projects that can create positive ripple effects in our corner of the world.

Eligible projects share three qualities: they have a clearly defined scope/need, a clear deliverable or outcome, and can be completed through a short-term engagement, rather than ongoing operational support. Examples may include:

  • Direct-action efforts — Tackle hands-on projects that result in a tangible output benefiting an organization or community directly (e.g., assembling care kits, helping with supply drives, day-of event support, assisting with short-term administrative tasks, etc.)

  • Strategic working sessions — Facilitate planning or problem-solving sessions

  • Communications and marketing development — Craft materials, messaging, and narratives (e.g., marketing plan templates, branding work, media relations, informational videos, etc.)

  • Planning initiatives — Develop roadmaps, frameworks, or implementation plans (e.g., creating a fundraising playbook, developing awareness events, helping with “drives,” etc.)

  • Operational and process improvements — Streamline workflows or systems

  • Research and analysis — Research and synthesize information to support decision-making.

We are open to creative requests — if there is a meaningful gap to fill or momentum to build, we want to hear about it here.

What types of projects do you take on?

Projects are reviewed based on:

  • Alignment with IKF’s mission

  • Potential for meaningful impact

  • Timing and IKF member availability

  • Collaborative fit and shared energy

Because IKF capacity flexes throughout the year, we cannot accommodate every request.

When will we hear back?

You will hear from us within the timeframe listed on the Interest Form.

Can we submit again in the future?

Yes. If your request is not selected, you are always welcome to resubmit for future consideration, as IKF capacity shifts throughout the year.

What makes a strong IKF partnership?

The strongest partnerships involve:

  • A clearly defined need or gap

  • A willingness to collaborate

  • A project that can be catalyzed within a defined timeframe, the end results of which will have a meaningful impact

  • A shared energy around the work

Do you have a Teen Board that can support projects?

We have a Teen Board made up of engaged high school students. They are especially well suited for hands-on, short-term projects and event support. You can indicate on the Interest Form if you have a project that might be a good fit.
